The Woes of a Pathological Gambler

Pathological gambling is a type of disease that is really difficult to detect due to the fact that it is not easy to really tell if a person has it by merely just looking at him. There is also no way to detect this type of disease by any kind of blood test, or breath test, and usually, one can only find out that someone has this disease if things have really gotten worse. It is a mental illness that certainly needs to be sorted out before it gets too late.

The trials that a person faces when he is ill with pathological gambling is the fact that he often develops a certain paranoid and anti-social behavior that inevitably affects those people who play a significant part in that person's life. Usually, that person would inevitably allow his gambling addiction to affect how he performs at work and in his own home which would also affect officemates and members of his family.

The problem gamblers would usually make telephone calls to bookmakers or stock brokers, and try to find ways in order to fund their gambling addiction by finding more money using sometimes, unacceptable means. They would end up absenting themselves from work, usually after the lunch break or arrive late for work due to the fact that have made trips to the casinos, or have had a hard time sleeping the night before, which then contributes to the reason behind why they always cannot get to work in time.

Other gamblers, on the other hand, would decide not to take a day off from work due to the fact that he may probably be very obsessive about trying to earn more money in order to pay some sort of debt that he has incurred to due his excessive gambling. This person will be more prone to a lot of anxiety and stress which will most certainly affect his productivity when it comes to his work.

Sometimes, he may even go to the extent of trying to borrow money from his co-workers in order to fund his gambling activities which would soon end up in various quarrels with his fellow workers if he is not able to pay his debts off. Other pathological gamblers may try to commit fraudulent activities or engage in various thieving activities in order to find more money to firstly engage in more gambling activities, and secondly, to try and pay his debts off, which have arisen due to his gambling problem and lack of self control.

The gambler with a pathological gambling problem certainly has a lot of problems to deal with that have come up because of his inability to control his gambling addiction.
